The COVID-19 catalyst
The COVID-19 pandemic became the unexpected catalyst for Avinode’s expansion into the air ambulance sector. As the world struggled with the pandemic’s logistical challenges, an interesting phenomenon emerged: Private jets were being used to ship supplies. This adaptation of private aviation resources for critical medical transport needs sparked a question within our organization: “What value can we bring to this space?”
Avinode didn’t enter this new market without preparation. We brought 20 years of experience in aviation technology, having already transformed how private jet charters operate globally. This deep industry knowledge positioned Avinode to bring our expertise to the medical sector.
The team recognized parallels between current air ambulance operations and how air charter functioned two decades ago—heavily manual processes, fragmented communication, and limited real-time information. Just as Avinode had helped optimize workflows in the charter space, we saw an opportunity to do the same within air ambulance services. Through our technology, teams could spend less time on operational logistics and dedicate more resources to what truly matters: patient care.
Our established reputation as a trusted technology provider in aviation created a foundation of credibility for this new venture. Our history of developing reliable aviation marketplace solutions gave us unique insights into the specialized requirements of medical flight operations.
From concept to product
The critical validation came through Avinode’s proof-of-concept work with a multinational medical assistance development partner. This collaboration provided the perfect testing ground for our air ambulance platform concept. The proof-of-concept allowed us to test functionality in real-world conditions, gather professional feedback, and measure efficiency gains.
Based on the insights gained, Avinode developed the Air Ambulance Platform as an essential tool for industry professionals. We’ve incorporated operational feedback, expanded functionality, built security features, created intuitive interfaces, and developed scalable architecture to support global operations. “Our mission is to deliver value through active engagement,” says Per Marthinsson, Co-founder and Chief Revenue Officer of Avinode Group. “We like working with forward-thinking people who provide feedback to move us forward. This collaborative approach is what made our proof of concept successful.”
